Sony just released some pictures of the PS3. What do you guys think?

Here's what I think...base one the new cell cpu, I'm impressed. It's going to be powerful. The design is slick and sweet looking.

The remote controll is kinda weird looking to me. Oh well, I had a feeling a new controller was going to come with the ps3. I wonder how much the bastard is going to be worth. Freakin like 500 bucks? Suppose to be design for HDtV.

"Sony also confirmed the PlayStation 3, will use Blu-Ray discs as its media format. The discs can hold up to six times as much data as current-generation DVDs. It will also support CR-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R formats. It also confirmed the machine would be backward-compatible all the way to the original PlayStation. It will also have slots for Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, and a compact flash memory slot. It will also sport a slot for a detachable 2.5 inch HDD somewhat similar the Xbox 360's

Out of the box, the PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers. It will also have six USB slots for peripherals--four up front and two in the back.

Sony also laid out the technical specs of the device. The PlayStation 3 will feature the much-vaunted Cell processor, which will run at 3.2 Ghz, giving the whole system 2.18 teraflops of overall performance. It will sport 256mb XDR main RAM at 3.2 Ghz, and have 256MB of GDDR VRAM at 700mhz.

Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. The RSX also has 512mb of graphics render memory and is capable of 100 billion shader operations and 51 billion dot products per second. It also has over 300 million transistors, larger than any processor available commercially today. It will be manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards, which would cost roughly $1000 total if bought today."

Sounds nice...probably can't afford it though. Now the xbox.

Not bad looking I think. It can go 3.2 ghz, almost as fast as my computer at 3.4ghz.

"For storage, the console has a removable 20GB hard drive and a 12x DVD-ROM unit. Up to four controllers can be connected to the machine, all wirelessly, and there are three standard USB 2.0 port too. Microsoft said the unit was "Wi-Fi Ready" - the adaptor card is an optional extra, though.

"And every MP3 player, digital camera and Windows XP-based PC with a USB 2.0 port can plug right into an Xbox 360 system to stream music and photos," gushed Microsoft. Every MP3 player? What iPod too? That'll be interesting. If true, we'd love to know what Apple has got from Microsoft in return.

The system connects to a Windows Media Center 2005 PC as an Extender unit, but it lacks PVR functionality itself - though apparently it will rip CDs.

The Xbox 360 will launch in the US first, "this holiday season", followed soon after by the European debut. It will ship in Japan in December. The console will apparently arrive in under six months, so it should hit the early November at the latest."

I'm going to have to go with the ps3, because it looks nicer.

From the description, I'm going with PS3. I can just sale my old one and still be able to play some old games that I still kept-if any. Nothing against Microsoft but I'm just not into online gaming or a selection that appears to be mostly sports games. I also never used X-Box so I'd rather go with what I have some experience with.

The ripping for X-Box sounds nice XD but I'm still going with PS3.

I only use consoles for video games. I usually ignore the music and DVD playing.

What about "Revolution" for Nintendo?

Actually Xbox 360 will have 3 processors with a total speed of 9.4 ghz. Plus double the ram and bandwith.

PS3 is going to get killed though, Microsoft has confirmed that they will launch Halo 3 in sync with PS3, code named "Sony Killer".

Running 3 processors doesn't mean that it's going to be 9ghz fast. It just has 3 processors that can balance the load. But your right though, it does have 3 going at 3.2 each.

One game is not going to destroy the ps2 opening day. Playstaion has 80% of the world's market share. That's 8 out of 10 houses you can say.

The ps3 has too many features, that one game can't compete with. Also the ps3, was a cooperation effort. 3 companies working as one to develope it. Dell, nvidia, and sony. The cell is possibly topply the PC procressor in the near future. Check out this article talking about it.

O I beg to differ, halo 2 sold 2.5 million copies first day, 150 million dollars. So far over 10 million copies sold. If one game could do it, it would be halo.

if it outsells the ps3, the first day, the ps3 is still going to be bought like crazy. You can't stop the next-gen system...especially with the way the ps3 is bulit. Plus they got another year to tweak it around...while the xbox is launch in a a few months, the ps3 developer have an edge by launching it next year.

Damn fan boys. I think we'd all see the true potential of all consoles if fanboys/girls didn't swarm to an overrated title leaving greater games to be overlooked.

Virtual Boy sucked. You didn't miss much from it. I hope Nintendo this time won't get smoked by Microsoft and Sony and actually stand a chance.

They better come up with something else and quit relying on icons like Link and Mario the same as Microsoft does with Master Chief/Halo. I know people like these icons but I'm getting bored of them.

I wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo does poorly with their "Revolution" either. If they keep up with their "innovation" crap, and make it a family console then they'll just be killed again. I like innovation and something interesting but sometimes something different doesn't always work. They better prove me wrong.

Hype. You're saying that just one title that's popular is better than a variety of titles that're popular? I'm with Tor on this one. I'd rather be playing a lot of good games instead of being stuck with just one good game.

I wonder if any Halo fans would even notice if Bungie (or whoever) put a half assed effort into Halo 3 due to hype?

I'd love to create my own overrated game, put little effort into its sequel (that the right word for it?) and watch as the mindless fanboys help overfill my wallet. I'd love it even more being able to get away with it too everytime because of hype.

I suppose in this day, a game's quality really doesn't matter as long as it sells.

I'm still going for PS3. I like more variety of games and am not really into repetitive sports titles that're are the same each time but just have a slightly different title.

Let's take a look at majority of the genres each has.

Sony- RPG's, Action, Platformer, FPS, Fighting, Racing, Sports...
Microsoft- FPS and sports

One of the main reasons why I'll pick Sony over Microsoft's box anyday.

You must've misread what I said. Let me repeat just that part. I meant from what it looks like, Microsoft's only main title is Halo. Could you tell me of any other hits that X-Box has that has the same impact like Halo?

I never really hear people mention much on X-Box aside from Halo.

Yea they need more titles that will have a bigger impact like halo. It's mainly about the market share though...the console with the largest market share, means more company want to built games for it, because then they have widen range of attracting customers and making $$$.

That's not exactly true with the power part. Let me use the current consoles to back myself up.

Xbox has more power than the PS2 yet PS2 still has more variety.

For your sake let's hope they don't waste 360's power this time and at least have a gaming library that can match Sony's.

Which of the console designs do you guys like out of the three?

Honestly, I'm disappointed with all three but I guess I'll have to say I like PS3's design best.

it has some interesting things to say about the xbox and ps3. I agree, i mean the freakin xbox looks like my damn computer case. yea they are a little different, than the usual designs in the pass decades...now all of them going vertical....

xbox 360 to feature the dual layer disc...which I bough a pack...3 for 25 bucks...damn! what a waste of money. But the dual layer disc can whole up to 9 gbs of space...now the ps3 on the other hand to feature the use of blue ray disc which is suppose to be able to hold 6x times that amount (that's what i read), which means 54 gb, larger than some hdd's.

Both machines are going to be crazy though...

All the systems look great (the Revolution only for it's ability to play all the old Nintendo games at this point), but for me the PS3 looks way best. So far the Xbox 360 doens't have pretty much anythign worth spending $400 on, even though Call of Duty 2 looks so f-in sweet. PS3's shown titles look way more promising.

I support ps3 as well. I think this battle between ps3 and xbox360 has more to it than just specs...it's kinda a battle between countries and culture as well.
