Do you think video games can cause someone to be violent or do violent things?

I don't know how anyone who never played a video game (or not play them as much) can say it does but I would disagree. The person has to already be f-cked up to go and do something violent then be a coward and go blame it on a video game.

If anything when I'm like crazy mad, playing a video game would calm me down and lower the urge to hurt someone. It gets my mind off of whatever made me mad and I usually forget why I was so mad in the first place. Video games are just for fun and is another form of entertainment like music or television.

I believe society is just weak and would rather blame something that can't say anything instead of considering if the parents of a disturbed person raised them right.

Right usually a shooter game calms me down when im angry and they say those are the worst. Everyone games are usually stupid.

Yes and it's usually shooters that're taken off the shelves because of some dumbass kid. They gotta ruin it for everyone else just because some parents don't want to take responsibility.

Aren't you glad they didn't take Halo 2 off the shelves before you got it..

They can't take games off of the shelves unless your a terrorist blowing up things or something. Its the parents responsibility not the game maker.

That's the exact point I been trying to make.

They HAVE done that before because some kid who shot people up at school. Or something like that.

Even if a terrorist blamed a video game for him wanting to blow up Americans, it's still his/her responsibility and not the game maker. Kid, terrorist, inmate-you name it. They should all take responsibility and not hide behind a video game for what they've done.

Same thing for movies and television.

Lemme explain why video game violence duznt make people violent bcuz the violent games keeps the violence in them under control.Heres a lil poll of my own:
Is it better to take it out on digital people or real people?

I personally think it's better to take it out on real people but since that's not allowed.. XD

Well it isn't exactly the same as violence but recently there's been some contraversies over GTA because of sex and other questionable content.

These idiots who want to so take something off the shelves really badly seem to be born yesterday. I won't mention any other M-Rated game with sex in it in case some other moron tries to get that off the shelves but sex have been in games for a long time...

I believe that they do because my little bro always plays violent games and then he punches me after. :P

I believe that they do because my little bro always plays violent games and then he punches me after. :P

Is that suppose to be a good thing?

Anyways, video game violence SOMETIMES bring physical violence. Like if you're really addicted to the game that has violence, wait until you start trying to do it in real life.

For example, when I was like addicted to Final Fantasy X, I was always getting a staff (from my sister) and hit like people that look like monsters to me. It was pretty funny when it was Halloween. I was a white mage and I started hitting everyone with a stick 'cause they were dressed as monsters. =D Now that's a good thing...Too bad I can't find the stick...

Little boys are normally agressive in a way. I remember my nephew who never even played video games before, did things such as throwing a can of Pringles at my head.

The son of a video rental owner I knew, did not play video games and he stupidly started kicking me while I was browsing for something to rent.

I don't know any little kid, especially in THIS day, that doesn't resort to violence when it doesn't get what it wants or hasn't done anything like hitting someone for no reason. Especially with how spoiled kids these days are.

That just goes to show that there's more to it. Things like stupidity, environment, and not being brought up with any decency, are examples that result in people doing violent things such as school shootings.

I was actually referring to agression and violence that're extreme and incidents that cause these kinds of controversies.

Let's take a look at this unrelated-yet related article.
Mother Goes on Trial for Stoning Sons (http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/11/01/laney.trial/index.html)

If you're too lazy to read to my point here's a highlight from the article:
Believes God ordered her to kill
...According to Files, Laney told psychiatrists while she was in custody that she believed God was speaking to her in different ways. On the day of the killings, for example, she believed she received a message from God that he wanted her children with him...
Should we ban The Bible and her religion for this?

The morons behind Columbine were video gamers. This woman's background is highly spiritual and religious.

Right away people want to point the finger and sue various video game companies because of the boys' background but when someone makes a reference to religion... Hmmm.

Hmm...that lady's psychotic. I'm really religious and I think God is talking to me but not telling anyone to kill someone because he wants someone to be with him. Jeez, people go way too far in their religion and start thinking about death because someone up there *points up* is telling them to kill someone. It's really annoying.

But yeah, some kids go psycho with games when they are waaay too addicted to the game and think the game is giving them a message. Like those Vietnam war games, people said that I should've died because I'm Vietnamese. But ya' know, they're way too addicted to the game.

That's just racism and ignorance. Oo;

People don't need video games to feel animosity towards the Japanese for WW2 or the Vietnamese for the Vietnam War. It's just there through upbringing and ignorance. I sure as heck know every bigot out there doesn't own a console or even played a game all their life.

There are people who take it overboard but really video games aren't to blame. They don't cause anything because I know not every single gamer has pulled another Columbine. Even the Surgeon General confirms that there is no link between aggression and video games.

It's messed up how kids who played those games would say that to you but they probably know nothing about history or manners anyway.

Krazim
11-05-2005, 03:07 AM
Ahah, right there. No manners. ¬_¬ Been waiting for someone to say that. =D Eheh, yes, video games aren't to blame but it's the people that get way too addicted to the game. I mean, sometimes I get addicted but not way too addicted that I would actually do what the game would tell me. Sometimes my friends and I joke around with RPG, saying that we're so addicted to it, we would come up and like air punch someone at random and say, "Yay! They lost 50 percent of their HP!" But yeah, video games aren't to be blame.

Was that a bad thing to mention manners?

How about stupid and obsessed without a life, then? XD

Krazim
11-05-2005, 04:18 AM
No, I've been waiting for someone to talk about the manners and respect. Haven't heard it in a long time...like for eight years. Whoa, that was long ago. 0_0

Ahah, the stupid and obsessed without a life...Ahh...reminds me of my brother.

i dont think it makes a person violent...i mean i play halo and a whole bunch of violent games, but im not aggressive...

Krazim

Haha, it depends if you're WAY addicted to the game. For example, you know that DDR: Mario Mix commercial where that staff was serving a customer? XD That's addicting.

But I don't think it will lead to deaths or anything. This is what I hate about life - people who likes to throw in violence, especially in games. It's just a waste of money. x_X

What you think violence in video games is a waste of money?

*turns Krazim into a turtle and defeats her by jumping on her head*

I don't really think about the violence or notice it. I'm not into those GTA type games...

Well......... I can't really tell for someone like FPS Doug, but maybe it unleases that inner anger and violentness in them when they play some like FPSes... but I can't really say for RPGs.

I played tons and tons of violent games with my brothers and they are not violent. I believe it's just happens to be in the media. For example, Smack Down. He tried wrestling and stuff like them and I tell him to stop. Smack Down is fake and some of it is real.
